Visage
"Live 2013"
The best songs from Visage including 'Fading To Grey' recorded during their thirteen date 2013 'Hearts and Knives' tour
2012 saw the 'Hearts and Knives' comeback release by Visage. After a 28 year absence the UK synthpop pioneers had a hit album once more. Frontman Steve Strange was back on top, appearing in a series of TV and radio appearances and even fronting a 'for one night only' Blitz Club.
Visage had until that point in time been a 'studio band' and (aside from a few TV appearances with the vocal mic turned on) had never performed with a full band. Tasked with the challenge of putting together a full live show to support their hit album, long-time Visage collaborator Steve 'Barney' Barnacle was tasked with the challenge. Barney over the years has been a top session musician and played in many bands, including a stint as the bass player in later day Queen.
Robin Simon (ex Ultravox) and Synth player Logan Sky from Visage laid down their parts immaculately. Drummer friend of Barney Johnny Marter was recruited for live drum duties. The resulting powerful live sound presented the perfect backdrop for vocalists Steve Strange and Lauren Duvall to deliver the Visage hits old and new.
The Live CD captures the best moments from the thirteen date 2013 tour. The physical CD version includes banter and chat from lead man Steve Strange and the crowd, whilst the digital release focuses purley on the music with no interuptions.
Visage would go on to do four more gigs in 2014 but without the live drum and bass guitar backbone. This release captures the long overdue Visage live experience. One that no doubt would have been extended and expanded in the years to come if it were not for the sad and untimely death of Steve Strange in 2015.
Visage History: Powered by the rise of the New Romantic movement, Steve Strange signed a record deal with Polydor, as “Visage” The debut album yielded a major single in "Fade to Grey," an instant club classic which heralded synth pop's imminent commercial breakthrough. The follow-up, "Mind of a Toy," was a UK Top 20 hit. The follow up was 1982's The Anvil. Beat Boy was the third album, released in 1984. In 2013 Visage returned with the 'Hearts and Knives' album. Steve Strange here aided by musicians Steve Barnacle (Bass), Robin Simon (ex Ultravox Guitarist) and Lauren Duvall (on vocals). 2014 saw keyboardist Logan Sky contribute on keyboards for the release of Visage 'Orchestral' album. Steve Strange sadly died in Egypt on Feb 15th, 2015. The final album 'Demons To Diamonds' was released posthumously later that year.
